The platform is working to help the Mustard Seed Production Common Initiative Group achieve its objectives.
A total of 20 young people make up the Mustard Seed Production Common Initiative Group. The group, whose Executive Board is made up of 6 members, carries out its activities in the locality of Bessi Fomukong, in the Mbengwi district of the MOMO department. In fact, all the members come from this department of the North-West region.
The main objective of this youth group is to improve the living conditions of its members by producing cassava cuttings. To achieve their goal, the group has rented land (7 hectares) from the Development Committee of the village where their activities take place. The rent is CFAF 30,000 per hectare per year.
Of the seven hectares leased, three have been developed by growing improved cassava cuttings. PROFALCAM helped them to choose the right variety for their environment. To do this, teams from the platform’s North-West zone made a number of field visits. The results of these various work sessions showed that the TMS 92/0057 variety is best suited to this environment.
And of course it was this variety that was planted on the 3 hectares under cultivation. PROFALCAM ensured the availability of this variety by arranging for the necessary cuttings to be transported from IRAD (Institut de Recherche Agricole pour le Développement) in Foumbot to Bessi Fomukong Village.
PROFLCAM is providing this support as part of one of its objectives, which is to make agriculture and agribusiness attractive to young people. And as announced, it is using the strategy of the independent seed system, which consists of allowing groups of young people to operate in a given commune to mainly produce seeds for PROFALCAM’s raw material producers in that locality.
It is important to note that these groups, including the Mustard Seed Production Common Initiative Group, as PROFALCAM members, will be exempt from the requirement to contribute cash for their project for the first three years of operation.
This is amazing group. Keep on in this speed. The world will hear you and the world will come to search for you. Let your works speak not words.
