GOVERNMENT EMPOWERS THE PRIVATE SECTOR TO SUPPORT YOUTHS IN THE AGRI-BUSSINESS

H.E President Paul Biya in his end of year speech to the nation took firm stands as to his intentions of developing the youths of Cameroon and particularly in the agricultural industry.

In the 2024 to 2026 integral development plan for the nation, the Cameroon Government has offered grants to the youths in the agropastoral industry worth two billion seven hundred and fifty million francs through MINADER and Five billion Francs through PROFALCAM a private operator in the production of locally made flour.

Within the context of an integrated plan for Import-substitution for this period, the government interns to reduce the quantity of imported flour and encourage the consumption of locally produced flour made out of plantain, cassava and sweet potatoes. The first category of grants is dedicated to the purchasing and installation of equipment and material for:

1 – 50 dewatering facilities of cassava, plantain and sweet potatoes in eight regions of the country.

2 – 25 drying and milling facilities in eight regions of the country for the cassava, plantain and sweet potatoes.

3 – 14 cereal storage and flour milling facilities including 70 silos of a total capacity of 350 tons per production batch in six regions of the country for sorghum and maize.

For the second category of these grants, the government through MINADER has offered 2.7 billion francs to facilitate the obtention of planting materials for the production of 350 million improved cassava cuttings for the production of cassava tubers necessary for the production of cassava flour in <La Plaine centrale> and another 9 billion francs for distribution proposes.

Within the framework of PROFALCAM and its youth promotion policy many youths shall find descent work/business opportunities in the production of cassava cuttings and processing.

PROFALCAM will through these direct grants create 2500 decent jobs for youths in the seed production business and in the course of the production circle each youth may earn salaries between 100 -150 thousand francs monthly, thereby contributing to the fight against unemployment and consequently rendering this sector very attractive for the younger generation.

Dans son
discours de fin d’année à la nation, Son Excellence le Président Paul Biya a
fermement exprimé son intention de développer la jeunesse camerounaise, en
particulier dans l’industrie agricole.

Dans le plan de
développement intégral 2024-2026 pour la nation, le gouvernement camerounais a
offert des subventions aux jeunes dans l’industrie agropastorale d’une valeur
de deux milliards sept cent cinquante millions de francs par le biais du
MINADER et de cinq milliards de francs par le biais de PROFALCAM, un opérateur
privé dans la production de farine locale.

Dans le cadre
d’un plan intégré de substitution des importations pour cette période, le
gouvernement Camerounais cherche à réduire la quantité de farine importée et à
encourager la consommation de farine produite localement à base de plantain, de
manioc et de patate douce. La première catégorie de subvention est consacrée à
l’achat et à l’installation des équipements pour :

1)
l’installation de 50 unités de déshydratation de manioc, de plantain et de
patate douce dans huit régions du pays.

2)
l’installation de 25 unités de séchage et de broyage du manioc, de la banane
plantain et des patates douces dans huit régions du pays.

3)
l’installation de 25 unités de stockage de céréales et de meunerie comprenant
70 silos d’une capacité totale de 350 tonnes par lot de production dans six
régions du pays pour le sorgho et le maïs.

Pour la deuxième
catégorie de ces subventions, le gouvernement à travers le MINADER a offert 2,7
milliards de francs pour faciliter l’obtention de matériel agricole pour la
production de 350 millions de boutures de manioc améliorées pour la production
de tubercules de manioc nécessaires à la production de farine de manioc dans la
Plaine centrale et 9 milliards de francs pour les besoins de distribution.

Dans le cadre de
PROFALCAM et de sa politique de promotion de la jeunesse, de nombreux jeunes
trouveront des opportunités de travail et d’affaires dans la production de
boutures de manioc et dans la transformation.

Grâce à ces
subventions directes, PROFALCAM créera 2500 emplois décents pour les jeunes
dans le secteur de la production de semences et, au cours du cycle de
production, chaque jeune pourra toucher un salaire compris entre 100 000 et 150
000 francs par mois, contribuant ainsi à la lutte contre le chômage et rendant
par conséquent ce secteur très attrayant pour la jeune génération.
